April's Arrival

Sunshine.  Freshly mowed grass.  Birds singing.  Blooming trees and shrubs.  Afternoons outside.  These are just some of my favorite things about Spring's arrival.  Most of all, I think I like the newness that comes in April.  Everything feels fresh and full of hope.

One of my favorite memories was in April.  It was the arrival of our first daughter and I'll never forget stepping out of the hospital with a new, precious bundle in my arms and feeling the warm sunshine.  It was just one of those perfect moments and everything felt different in the best way.  My mom came to stay and we had the most wonderful month together.  We enjoyed what seemed like endless sunshine.  We walked, we talked, we admired all the hot pink blooming azaleas, but most of all, we cuddled and loved this precious sweet little baby that was all our own.

Now I find myself anticipating April's arrival all winter long.  When we're in the midst of a cold, dreary day, I remind myself that April is just around the corner.  And now it's here, and like every April before it, I remember why I love it so much.  Now our oldest daughter will soon be eight years old, but even though the years pass by, April still feels as sweet as ever.

My camera seemed to stay put all this winter, but boy has it been busy the past couple weeks.  ;-)  I hope you don't mind me simply sharing some pictures (and memories) of our Spring so far.

Hope you all have a lovely April weekend!  (And please do share your favorite things about April's arrival, too!)

    1. Oh, wow, that definitely would make up for it! I love that when my husband gets home from work now, it is still light enough for us to spend a little time outdoors in the evening. :-)

  2. Just wonderful post - I can't stop grinning - your girls are beautiful! (I had two toe-headed blue eyed girls too so it's extra special to see that) and all your little special moments caught on digital - just happy wonderful April, indeed.

HOWEVER it is supposed to snow here tonight and it's rained for three days straight and I have a terrible cold. Guess I have to live vicariously through you this time!

    Enjoy your weekend. : - )

  3. Love all the spring pictures! We won't be seeing any too soon here, but won't be long. (We had snow the last couple days) I have gone out and peeked to see if the rhubarb and peonys show signs of spring..if you look VERY close, there are tiny shoots coming! Girls are so cute and growing up fast. Always love your photos, very calming and love the simplicity! Happy spring!

  4. Love your posts and watching the girls grow up! And then there's all that house goodness and beauty outdoors! I, too, love April with it's signs of renewal, birds arriving in a state of giddiness, all my flowers and shrubs (and those transplanted from my parent's home) showing their gorgeousness and yes, even the trees popping into green (despite all the pollen). And did I mention the warmth (although we have flurries in today's forecast)??!! It's also a perfect time to take day trips and discover something new about your area - we're finding perfect lunch spots with their local, one-of-a-kind charm! Happy Spring!

  5. I love your memories of April, they sound absolutely perfect. Your memories remind me of my own when we brought our babies home in December, amongst snow and twinkling trees. There is nothing like the birth of your children to mark so brilliantly a time in ones life.
The house looks so beautiful, you've done a remarkable job!
    Best, Catherine

  6. Right now in MD our April is bringing snow, but there have been some warmer days, things are in bloom, and cold weather veggies are growing in the garden! At least we are headed in the right direction and winter is over. Although my kids and I just read "The Long Winter" by Laura Ingalls Wilder and I promised myself I wouldn't complain anymore :) enjoy your spring, your daughter's birthday, and the start of summer! Love your blog post as always.

Yes, it sounds like spring will be there soon for you and that you are already enjoying the little things. :-) I so admire you for planting cold weather veggies - I never seem to make it in time. We haven't read The Long Winter yet, but hope to read it soon! (We are on Farmer Boy.) Thank you for your sweet comment!
