This past Saturday I was cleaning house and Justus was putting up trim. It was kind of a gloomy day out and so I declared an official break, which meant a trip to the coffee shop for a treat and a stop at the nursery.
When we returned home I then spent a happy two hours planting mums in our front porch planters and putting out our pumpkins.
I wish I had taken some pictures of the girls helping me. We were all covered in dirt and it felt wonderful!
To be honest, I wasn't even sure if I was going to share pictures of our porch. I didn't even clean the porch before taking these photos... can you believe that? (smile)
Isn't it funny how we let our insecurities take hold of us every now and then... I kept waiting for our yard to look perfect before sharing any photos. But then I put everything into perspective and realized just how silly that thought was. I even looked at a photo from several months ago when our front yard was bare of grass in several places from some of the changes we made. Now it has almost completely filled in and I imagine next spring it will come in healthy and lush.
That's actually one thing I love about having a blog. Sometimes we forget how much we really have done... it's nice to look back and realize there is progress. I can't even begin to tell you how much your encouraging comments have meant to both my husband and I as we work around our old house.
It's just a simple fall porch, but its cheerful color is a bright spot in my day every time I look out the window.
Hope you are having a good day!

Hi Andrea!
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday! Your front porch looks fabulous! Would never have known it wasn't perfectly clean!! :o)
Love the mums, too! I just bought some mixed color mums, but need to go buy more!! Love the change of the seasons, even if we don't get much fall here in central Florida! I make it fall all around my house anyway!!
I am off to enter your giveaway!
I am hosting one, too! You should come check it out!
Have a love rest of the week!
Blessings,
Becky
I love your front porch...
ReplyDeletesimply made to feel at home!
That's it.
Thank you for not sweeping it. ;)
The planters & mums are beautiful. A peaceful, happy porch :)
ReplyDeleteYour porch is wonderful. You are the best at simply beautiful decor.
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea!
ReplyDeleteYou have done a great job again; your porch is beautiful, inviting and Autumn-ish. But the significant part, I believe, is how much fun you had together as a family to make it look the way it is. Speaking about perfection, I always remember my mom saying one of her favorite quotes ,"The essence of being human is that one does not seek perfection"
Thank you for reminding me that!
It's gorgeous, and I'm so glad you included your girls in the planting. Do you mean to tell me your husband actually reads the comments on your blog? My family doesn't read my blog, which is just as well. So glad he enjoys the feedback you get. You DO have a beautiful home.
ReplyDeleteAndrea - What a beautiful porch all ready for Autumn! What precious memories you made with your girls planting flowers. They will be so proud to see them grow.
ReplyDeleteJudy
Your porch is beautiful! Awww what great memories with your babes. My daughter likes to help me plant as well. You have the most gorgeous home!
ReplyDeleteYour porch is lovely and inviting. Reminds me of growing up with my grandmothers. Each evening you sat out on the porch and rocked in the chairs till bedtime.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
A simple TO DIE FOR porch maybe!
ReplyDeleteLooks AWESOME!!!!!
Your porch is SO pretty with all the mums you planted. I LOVE the white drop leaf table I spotted near the door. Very charming!

I so love your style!! I am also liking your new "fallish" header.
ReplyDeleteA bright spot in my day to pop in for a visit and see your beautiful porch! :)
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine sitting on your lovely porch. Your mums are so pretty. It's perfect.
ReplyDeleteI love your fall porch. Simple is perfect. Who says it has to be anything more. Your post was so timely as I have been thinking, dreaming, planning what to do with my teeny porch. I want it to be inviting, homey, fall-ish and BRIGHT~ I like your mums. Perfectly fall~

I just planted mums and daises, too. I love how they are already full and blooming when I buy them. You know, I still haven't swept my porch from the mess, either. I took strategic photos so no one could tell. :)
ReplyDeleteI did see that spec of dirt but ignored it : ) Seriously it all looks very welcoming and wonderful...and who could not enjoy planting fall mums. Their rich colors alone are so beautiful! Glad the girls enjoyed it with you.
ReplyDeleteI love things that are simple--a few mums and some pumpkins are just the right amount of decor for me. I like this so much better than porches overflowing with dried cornstalks and wreaths and whatnot. (Can I say that out loud? :-) And I'm glad you didn't go to a lot of trouble to clean up before snapping some pics. I did that last night, too. There's some mess in the background, but it meant the difference between having a post and not having one. I'm trying to let go of perfectionism and focus on what's important, as I so often see you doing.
ReplyDeleteSo simple and elegant .... love this !!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. My favorite color mums.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
Your porch is wonderful! Many people, including myself would love to have a big front porch like yours. I'm so glad you shared it with us!!
ReplyDeleteYou've really captured the natural essence of the season, Andrea! I agree wholeheartedly about how little credit we give ourselves for the progress we make. I started my blog as a way to document aspects of our life. Somewhere along the way, I got a bit too caught up in trying to take perfectly staged pictures, but I'm coming back around and embracing the imperfections and not worrying so much about appearances, but rather the feelings. Happy Fall, friend!

Your porch is gorgeous! I'd love to buy buckets of mums, but unfortunately they'd freeze in a day. I'll enjoy the photos of yours instead. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea! I don't think I realized your porch was so big...and you have a swing. :o) I adore porch swings. My porch isn't quite wide enough but if it was I would definitely have one. Everything looks so festive. Good job!
ReplyDeleteWish I had a picture of your porch how it looked in the middle of the night last week when I pulled up... the light from the porch was just barely visible through the fog on the ground and it was causing the pumpkins and the mums to peek through and when I pulled into your driveway I just sat there staring, it was so beautiful!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful porch...your photography is stunning...and your porch looks pretty clean to me :) !!
ReplyDeleteYou just want to sit out there with a hot cup of cider and take in the wonderful smells of Fall.
What a pretty porch. I love the white against the red brick. It looks so crisp and clean (even though you said you didn't clean it ... LOL) and the mums are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour mums look lovely on your front porch.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful mums and beautiful and happy porch. Happy WUW.
ReplyDeleteFABBY
Your porch planters are so pretty filled with mums! Love the white table on the the porch, too! The porch looks so crisp and inviting! :)
ReplyDeletewhat a fabulous porch! love it and your mums look great.
ReplyDeleteAndrea, Your front porch is beautiful! It must be wonderful to look back at everything you've accomplished with your home. I just looked through your 'home' section and your whole house is amazing!! Have a wonderful weekend! ~ Jamie P.S. The "BLT salad" looks delicious! Yet another recipe to try...
ReplyDeleteYour porch is simplistic loviness once more. I like the colors you chose for your mums. They compliment the brick and your pretty red front door. I just painted my doors red last year for a pop of color. I love it.
ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful porch! Even if you didn’t tidy it up, it didn’t matter, as the mums you planted are more than enough to make it beautiful! I’m sure your girls loved it because it’s color-filled. You’ve made yourself a lively porch. Continue sharing your stories!
