Snowballs in April

This week of April brings back so many memories for me.  Six years ago we brought our darling newborn baby home from the hospital to a glorious spring day.  At the time my mom still lived across the country, but she had flown to Alabama (where we lived at the time) to spend nearly a month with us.  It was the first southern spring I had experienced where I wasn't sitting in an office, and my mom and I had one of the best months ever enjoying the time with our new precious baby girl (while poor Justus had to work).  Since then I always anticipate this week of April, because I know it brings greener grass, warmer days and blooms aplenty.

Now that we live in Tennessee, I also know this time of year brings a blossoming snowball bush and I love to fill our home with their fluffy white blooms.

When making a large bouquet, there are usually little blooms towards the bottom of the branch, just perfect for making a tiny bouquet.

Who knew an old jar that held peanut butter could look so pretty?  (wink)

And yes, even a large bouquet for the kitchen.   It's the first room I wander to in the morning and the blooms are a lovely reminder that spring is in the air.

This past Sunday Jillian turned six years old and I can hardly believe how the time has flown, and yet so many wonderful memories have been made.  It just makes me want to savor every day I have with my family, being thankful for all that we have.

  1. What a wonderful post. My mother had a huge snowball tree in PA-it was in the center part of the turn around in our farmyard. I loved those blooms and used to bring armloads of them in and plop them in an old chipped enamel coffeepot (which I still have). What precious memories you have of the time with your Mom and your new baby girl! xo Diana

  12. What a gift to have your mother for a month at your daughter's birth! And now to them close to share life with, is truly special. I love your snowball's around the house. I am doing that with blue mason jars filled with daffodils. It has been so cold up here, they are a bit late this year. I will follow with peonies and eventually hydrangea. Flowers from your own yard are so much fun to bring inside to enjoy. Your posts are always such a bright spot. Thanks you for that!

  15. Beautiful. Memories, Moments and Mothering... You're mom is so sweet (too!).

Have to ask. What kind of camera do you use? I'm contemplating a change (here, with mine!) and so, I hope you don't mind me asking..

    1. Thanks, Bevy! I have a Canon Rebel T3. It's one of the more affordable DSLR cameras, and while still pricey, worth every penny. :-) Hope that helps!

  20. I love your chippy white cabinet. Little cabinets like yours are so handy in so many places. I also love how you created your kitchen shelves using reclaimed wood. We deconstruct old homes, and we love seeing how others use reclaimed wood.
