A Rug's Best Friend

Isn't it funny how sometimes it's the things in your home you can't see that actually make such a huge difference?  (I've been telling my husband this frequently during the past week as we've gone through a major overhaul in our bathroom tub.)

I absolutely love having a rug in our living room.  It's one of those purchases I wonder how I did without for so long.  But what I didn't love is how much the rug slipped around.  I had bought an inexpensive rug pad in the beginning, which began to disintegrate on the floor, and I promptly removed it and went without.

There he is... the major rug moving culprit.  He and the girls would go running through the dining room into the living room, over the rug, which would then end up pushed all over the floor.  I really don't even want to think about how many times I had to position it back in place and the furniture that slid with it.

It was definitely time to try something else.  This rug pad came from Rug Pad USA and I was very curious to see how it would work in comparison and how it would look and feel after a little time had passed.  Well, now I'm wondering how I ever went without this rug pad as it has made the biggest difference.  Not only does the rug not slip, even when Huck thinks he's a little kid that has to run after the girls, but it has so much more cushion and is a great place to relax.  I've always loved sitting on the floor with the girls, whether it's reading or watching them play or working on a project of my own.  This has definitely become our favorite place... just as a living room should be.

The rug pad is the Eco-Cushion, which is eco-friendly, safe for all floors, and will stay soft without breaking down.

You may have noticed we have a new coffee table in the living room.  I've been working on a few updates in the room and the coffee table is my favorite new addition (built courtesy of my handy husband)... I'll be sure to share all the details soon!

  1. That does it! Your husband needs to make & sell furniture on the side. Beautiful and rustic! Carpenter by trade? And yes having a good pad under the rug is a good thing! Kathleen in Az p.s. After I read what I wrote, thinking he's to busy with the house projects. Beautiful coffee table.

    1. Thank you! He's always been handy since I've known him (like working on vehicles, etc), but he has only done building/house projects since we've been married. I can't believe how good he's gotten. No, he sits at a desk on a computer all day! ;-)

How do you keep the white rug so white? With 2 kids and a dog that seems like a miracle! :)

  5. Dear Anonymous - I promise the rug does get dirty! I have a vacuum I love and I use it a lot! Huck, our dog, doesn't shed and since he's an indoor dog he stays fairly clean and we groom him so his hair stays shorter. He has tracked mud in before but it has all vacuumed up after drying. The girls don't eat in the living room and we try to remove muddy shoes at the door. I have had a few stains, but I've tried to tackle them right away. Also, the camera helps! (My husband actually asked if I turned the rug around :-D)

  6. Gorgeous coffee table, Andrea! I was wondering what type of vacuum you have, as I'm searching for a new one. Also, do you use the carpet or the bare floor setting to clean your rug? I have the smaller version of this rug in my kitchen and it's starting to show some dirt. I'm thinking I need to move it.

    1. I have a Shark Navigator Lift-Away and I LOVE it. The suction power is amazing plus it's anti-allergy and very easy to maneuver. I use the carpet setting on our rugs, but the vacuum has a suction release that works great for rugs so you can use the carpet setting but it doesn't pull the rug up. I bought mine from Costco but it's similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/Shark-Navigator-Lift-Away-Professional-NV356E/dp/B005KMDV9A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409318793&sr=8-1&keywords=shark+navigator

  7. This is interesting. I too was contacted by Rug Pad USA about testing one of their rug pads and featuring it on my blog. I've also seen another blogger's post about this very company. I think they are smart to use bloggers to promote their product. I didn't reply to their offer. I think I was a little skeptical. Did you have to pay for the product or did they send it to you free of charge? Did you get to choose a style of rug pad? The other blogger who featured this company had a different type of pad. She really liked the product too.
