The Playroom

 Happy Thursday!

The playroom was our last stop upstairs... it only received a couple updates but I thought I'd go ahead and share a few photos. Believe it or not, this is one room I don't have a scary "before" picture to share!

The walls in this room were already painted white when we moved in, but the floors were in a sad state, like the rest of the upstairs.  We continued the same paint color in here as the office/schoolroom for an easy, bright fix.  I cannot believe how much a painted floor can transform a room!

The playroom is one of two bedrooms located upstairs.  The girls spend so much time here and it's always the first place the kids run whenever we have company.  I love that the majority of the mess stays out of view since it's tucked away... however, we do still have a toy box downstairs and I assure you by the time evening comes it looks like a small tornado has gone through the entire house (smile).

We also have an extra twin bed in this room.  If we have guests that need more than one room, I'll move Jillian into this twin bed so they can use her bedroom too.

This is the other small update in this room... our neighbor recently asked if we would like this 1930's iron hospital bed frame.  Umm, that would be a yes!  My husband had to do some minor welding on it to accommodate the larger mattress, so I was pretty excited to finally put it together this week.

Someday I'd like to change out the bedding and perhaps paint the bed frame, but for now this works.

With all the work we've done around our house, I have not spent too much time decorating in here.  For the most part the walls are bare, but we do have some ideas for shelving sometime... you know, in our spare time (ha)!  It is not unusual for me to leave a wall bare though until I find exactly the right thing.

Still, the bright colorful toys and painted floor make it such a cheerful place to be.

The door leading into the playroom is the original.  We wish many times the previous owners had left the original doors downstairs as well, but I'm glad we still have a couple with us.

To be honest, this room is often cluttered and simply a mess, but it's a sweet mess filled with precious girls.  I wouldn't change it for the world!

P.S.  I had no part of this little tea table... I have a little girl who obviously watches her mommy closely and already loves to put a table setting together!  (smile)

Hope you have a great weekend.  We have plans to go to the pumpkin patch on Saturday and let's just say I'm as excited as Jillian!

  10. What a charming and perfect playroom! I also like how bright and cheery it is. I love the quilt on the bed! That is one of my favorite prints, I used the same one for my daughters bed when she first transitioned to a big girl bed. Boy, do I understand the tornado effect with toys. Sometimes you feel like the tornado follows as you clean! :)

  17. If I was ever lucky enough to renovate a house the right way I would install doors like yours...with 5 panels. I love them. :o) This room is a delight. So light and fresh and feminine. My kids had a room we called the toy room. My daughter couldn't say toy at first and it came out "the toe room." To this day we still refer to toys as toes. Enjoy the pumpkin patch!

  19. I'm loving your painted floors upstairs and this play room is just so sweet! I'll be the girls spend many happy hours there. That door is a real treasure too. We replaced all our doors upstairs with ones very similar to yours and stained them dark like that. Looks like we made a good choice to keep it authentic. This room is just as wonderful and the rest of your house!

  21. Of course everything in the room is so sweet--that pink kitchen!--but I'm fixating on your door. I love the contrast of that original dark door with all the girly lightness in this room. And I know just what you mean about wishing you had the original doors. Every single interior door was changed in our house. They are all a stock, builder-grade door from the 90s. I know it must have cost someone a small fortune to swap them all out, so I wish I could appreciate them...but I don't. Love how I get so much from seeing your home, even though it's so different from mine.

  28. I have spent some time visiting your home and it is just darling. I love all of the changes you have made and the hard work you have put into making the house your home. I too have a lot of white in my home and I appreciate all of your white touches. Even though it is a newer home and only 14 years old, we built it to look older and here and there I try to add touches that add to the age, I love your school house lights and I can't wait to show my husband.
