A while back I was asked if I would contribute a photo and idea for a story on Country Living's website. It was all about quick mini-makeovers... I spent a few days thinking it over and kept coming back to the pantry post I had done a couple weeks before. As a busy mom myself, nothing makes me feel better than a makeover that is quick and easy and combines organizing and decor all in one.
Above is the photo I sent them... I had such a great time rearranging our pantry and took the opportunity to give our old cabinet a little makeover at the same time.
BEFORE:
As you know, I love the old cabinet we use as a pantry but the inside did look a little rough. Although the outside is painted white, I had never done anything inside other than give it a thorough cleaning. I actually like the all wood interior in its natural state, but I thought the door could use a little freshening. So I painted a coat of white on and then a light coat of ASCP in Paris Grey, followed with a little clear wax.
AFTER:
I love the way it turned out... it not only looks better, but feels better to the touch. In addition, I put a coat of ASCP Paris Grey on the lower shelf, which is the only part of the cabinet that is not original.
You can find the tips I shared here, along with several other great ideas shared by some fantastic bloggers (I love the sugared berries by Gourmandistan so much that I plan on making some to use for Jillian's birthday cake coming up in a couple weeks). I'm so honored that Country Living asked me to be a part of 7 Mini-Makeovers You Can Finish Fast... I hope you'll head over and check out all the inspiration!
Congratulations on your feature at CL! Love your pantry cabinet!

Well done - and sure is a treat to be asked by them. They have good sense.
ReplyDeleteI wish MY pantry was nicer - it's big and has weird structural lines and things get lost big time in there.
One of these days, one of these days I will try - I would love to have less deep shelves, that's half the problem I think!!
LOVE a mini makeover. Tidying up something like my pantry makes me happy each time I open it up.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I enjoyed the 7 makeovers. Your pantry is inspiring!

Congrats on the Country Living feature.....I just love your pantry makeover.... So beautifully organized and pretty that you probably would not need to have a door!...however, I love the door in the Paris Grey! Have a great day!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!! What a great makeover and how beautifully displayed.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
You have inspired me! Our house does not have a separate pantry and I have to keep all our food in the cupboards. Ghastly! Have slowly been replacing all my food containers with mason jars. SO polished. How exciting for you to have this opportunity to share with more readers. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your pantry, especially the gray on the inside door! That is the perfect gray, and your technique turned out perfectly!!! Where do you get that type of paint and wax? I really love your blog and look forward to your new posts. I can't wait to see your new kitchen floors and chicken coop :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Deni. My mom and I usually split our paint order and share... the paint will last a long time. We order it from here: http://shop.robynstorydesigns.com/Chalk-Paint-Decorative-Paint_c2.htm. The wax is also Annie Sloan.. it is amazing and will "finish" your look if you use the chalk paint. I'm anxious to share our kitchen floors and chicken coop too! The coop is getting closer to be finished... I'm still painting and we need to install the roof.
DeleteWhat a beautiful cabinet makeover Andrea!! I love it! My pantry is a bit of a disaster area and I keep meaning to work on it - your post is perfectly inspiring! Thanks for sharing! ~Hugs, Jennifer
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing your pantry all fixed up...made me wish I had one all over again! I went to CL and saw the features. I know it's impossible for me to be impartial...but I liked yours the best. :)

Good submission.
ReplyDeleteDitto on preferring natural wood, but here's an idea that might expand the use of your cabinet. What if you took a cork board (or acoustical ceiling tiles) and hung it on the top section, cover it with some nice fabric (that could change with the season) and maybe criss-crossed ribbon that could hold photos, etc., and use the board to keep a running list of what's in the pantry, what needs to be replenished, a calendar, whatever you might want to pin up there. You could even have a great time making your own interesting push pins to use. The bottom portion could have a chalkboard, or you could use chalkboard paint, for your girls to use, or you could put a second cork board there and they could hang their artwork and such. There's lots of ways you can utilize the space on the backside of that door!
ReplyDeleteI love this and wish I had a pantry . I too use mason jars, they are the best and I also save and use any glass container
ReplyDelete( pasta sauce ) jars are great. I just soak them till the label comes off . And look for good blue ones @ antique stores or thrift shops. SOmetimes the dollar store has great glass jar containers :)
congrats, andrea! your pantry is awesome--i should be so organized! tfs:)
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful cupboard!! and it looks great with the inside of the door painted.\Not sure if I have been here before, so off to take a look around.
