Bathroom Storage

Although our bathroom remodel is not complete, I thought I'd share some progress pictures (to be honest here, I think almost our entire house is a work in progress!).  The first order of business was to attack an awkward storage corner.

BEFORE:

You can imagine my frustration with this corner and I had to dig deep to find a before picture!  (smile)  This is what the corner looked like when we first looked at the house.  When we bought it and moved in, we tore out the shelves and tried to make it look presentable by adding a tall cabinet, but it just never looked right.  We also tried to find a piece of furniture that would fit correctly, but to no avail.  Then my husband decided the best course of action would be to build in some storage and I could hardly contain my excitement.

He used tongue and groove bead board and installed it horizontally so that the bathroom looked original and cohesive with the rest of the house.

I love the way it turned out!  In the planning stages I immediately designated the top cabinet for medicine... large enough to store everything and far enough up that I can be assured it is out of reach!  (I can't tell you how excited I am to finally have an official place to store medicine!)

We didn't want the entire storage corner to be cabinets though, so my husband didn't frame everything in and left a couple shelves open for storing things like towels, toilet paper and undergarments (smile) in the  basket for a certain little girl.

We also wanted to make sure this special stool had room to be tucked away.  Since the bathroom is small, it is important to keep things out of the walkway!

This wooden stool was made for my mom when she was little and a couple years ago my grandma painted the top and gave it to me to use for our girls.

And you can tell, we do use it!

This little stool is mine!
I use it all the time.
To reach the things I couldn't,
And some of the things I shouldn't!

So sweet.

We are slowly making our way around the room installing the bead board, but I couldn't resist purchasing this cheery shower curtain from Pottery Barn on sale.  The blue and red flows with the rest of the decor downstairs.

The toilet and sink are also new since we moved in.

This adorable picture came from an artist local to my relatives in Alaska and it finally found a home in the bathroom.

This morning I couldn't resist cutting a few flowering branches off the tree in our yard and tucking them in an old Ball jar for the bathroom.  Not only are they beautiful, but they give off a slight sweet fragrance.

We've been enjoying weather in the 70s this week and spring feels like it is finally here!

  15. What a fabulous look for a bathroom, so fresh and clean, and when you see the difference from how it originally was it really inspires. My wife spotted it too and is now demanding something similar in our tiny little bathroom in The Gold Coast that has been in desperate need of a makeover since we moved in 5 years ago!
