Just Dreaming

Somehow it seems so fitting that one of the first colors to greet us with the promise of springtime is one as cheerful and bright as yellow.

I've been dreaming of spring all weekend... my gardening seeds arrived in a package Friday and I spent a relaxing hour sitting on the picnic table working on the garden plan while Justus was hammering away on our soon to be chicken house.

A few cheerful yellow buds placed on the dining room mantel bring in warmth and sunshine and almost make me forget that it's still cold outside and only February.

Do you remember the dough bowl my father-in-law made me?  Well, he actually made us two and just recently gave this one to us(I know, could I be any luckier?)  This one is a bit wider than the other and was made from a piece of cherry.

The contrast of colors in the wood is beautiful and I knew immediately it would be perfect used as a centerpiece on our dining room table.  As I'm sure you do, I treasure handmade items like this, even more so when it's made by someone special to us.

My husband snapped this picture of Rosetta and I this afternoon while we were all enjoying the last couple hours of sunshine and I was busy picking yellow flowers.  My little Rosie is growing up...

I hope you have a wonderful week!

  11. Hi Andrea. I am a new follower. I saw your story in Romantic Homes and I'm so glad I did. Your home is so lovely as are you and your precious little girl. What a nice gift your FIL made for you. How wonderful to have hand made keepsakes. Yellow certainly is a sign of spring. My daffodils are just barely peeking through the ground. But, spring is definitely on the way..I would like to invite you to visit my Cottage, you would be most welcome..Happy Sunday..Judy

  17. Beautiful photos and little Rosie. Can't wait to see the chicken house. I've been talking about one since last spring. I just "reminded" my husband again last night. He said he had too many coops in the fire right now....Maybe I can inspire him with yours.

  18. Like you, I am so incredibly ready for spring! We are itching to plant our garden, too.
Your new dough bowl is beautiful! Handmade gifts are the best, aren't they?

  19. You are indeed a lucky lady to be the recipient of two dough bowls! Your husband captured such a sweet moment between you and Rosie. We have a granddaughter named Rose, but we never call her Rosie! You've inspired me to brave the cold today and go outside to gather some quince and forsythia that's blooming in the yard.

  20. I just love that picture so much. Beautiful. I would take another one with your other daughter and blow them both up and framed them and put them in their room in black and white with a white vintage frame. Perhaps both in a corner wall . So stunning. That is an heirloom for them to see even years later when they have their own children how much their momma marveled and loved them so. Love it!
Also Andrea, so jealous you have Spring a few weeks earlier than us. I can't wait. I"m over this! We might get snow today. Ahhhhhh!

  21. Beautiful blog! Found you through my latest issue of Country Living. Can you believe we already have daffodils (or buttercups, as they seem to call them here in the south) blooming in our yards? Amazing for February! So glad I found a fellow Tennessean to follow. Blessings to you.

  23. Chicken house or carved bowl, don't which I should be more envious of. You all are quite the busy bees. Look at little Rosetta. She is not so little anymore and quite the image of Justus. I am feeling as you as well, let spring be on its way. Happy garden planning Andrea.
