Scenes from a May Living Room

Do you ever feel the urge to change your furniture around as the seasons change?

Please tell me I'm not the only one.

It all started when I ran into our local fabric store for some trim and spotted this cheery red fabric.

Hm, this would make great summery pillows.

I couldn't resist buying a yard since it was only $1.99.  (And last night while looking at a Pottery Barn catalog, I saw they either have the same fabric or something nearly identical to it.  A steal!)

Then with the plan of sewing pillow covers that evening, I decided to thoroughly clean the living room, which then resulted in wondering if my favorite cupboard that was just hiding in our bedroom would look pretty in a corner of the living room.

Which then led to an entire furniture rearrangement.

In the midst of a busy morning working, running after two girls, renovating our upstairs, and just the busyness of daily life, it felt so nice giving our living room a fresh and cheerful update.

Just right for the beginning of May and the promise of warm, sunny days ahead.

Happy May!

  5. Is that a door on your coffee table? Love that. I find that as the weather gets warmer, I tend to add warmer colors to my rooms. Red is my favorite color...I could spend days in that room on that beautiful red sofa!

  7. I love the room arrangement. I pinned it because I, too, have a red couch and I love the way you made yours work and how you were able to brighten it up. I'm planning crisp white board and batten in my living room and was worried that the red couch would pop too much. But your couch near the bright white fireplace and accompanied by the white chippy coffee table works beautifully!

  11. Wow! What an inspiring room! Especially the wood walls with white trim, is it bead board? It looks incredible! The picture above the mantel caught my eye as well... is it wool? I just love it all! Very well done! Do you mind if I "pin it?"

  18. I just love the chippy cupboard! What I wouldn't give to have one just like it. And your coffee table is so unique, did you make it? Your room is beautiful. I love moving things around my home too. I can't say I do it seasonally; I do it when I get into one of those "change it up" moods:)

  21. I just did the same with my living room on Friday. It began with a table and I ended up moving all sorts of pieces. I drive my husband nuts, but I love changing things around.

I love your colorful room. I too have a red sofa- not in the living room. I love all the blogs with beautiful white rooms, but they aren't for me.
