One of my very favorite purchases, this large old cupboard that we use for a pantry likely received a quick coat of white paint before being put for sale and I had never done a thing to change it since I brought it home several years ago. A couple years ago I had given the interior door a little makeover (here) with Annie Sloan Paris Grey chalk paint, and loved it so much I decided to try painting the entire cupboard the same color.
I opted to use the chalk paint versus latex paint because I wanted to preserve the original character of this cupboard, imperfections and all. After I painted the cupboard, I distressed it a little and then used clear wax.
The cupboard painted white worked really well with our kitchen, but I suppose I felt like a little change. Truthfully, I'm not yet sure how I feel about the new color! I suppose I'll keep it like this for now and see if I get used to it... :-)
I should mention here that this project was on my to-do list, but not my husband's. ;-) I knew he wouldn't mind me painting it, but my list of painting projects is endless, and this cupboard definitely was not on it. But my mom had asked to have our girls for the evening, and it was SO much fun doing a quick little project! I'll get back to my real to-do list this weekend. ;-)
I also had fun rearranging the shelves on our wood cabinet. For a while now I've had more practical things stored here, but I was ready to get my shelves pretty again with some of my favorite white dishes.
I suppose with Valentine's Day approaching, it would be fun to have a heart garland hung here in the kitchen, but I haven't been able to take down our little mitten garland we made around Christmas time.
My mom put together this project for all of us one evening and we had a great time. Both my girls and I worked on making the mittens, even Rosetta did a little stitching!
Jillian (who turns 7 in April) is getting quite good at embroidery!
In other house news, the (very thick) beadboard walls and ceiling are up in the bathroom and now I'll be busy painting the room! We also have a new front door sitting in our living room to be installed this weekend (and painted) - more on that soon!
Hope you have a great week and a happy Valentine's Day!
Sometimes a quick project is needed! Last night I needed an easy sewing project to relax with, it was so nice!
ReplyDeleteLove your pantry cupboard! We really need one just like that for our kitchen. We have a little nook next to the chimney, perfect for a pantry. Right now all of our pantry items are in a lower cupboard and we have to crawl on the floor to find anything. It is on my to-do list this month! Now I am trying to decide if bead board will look good in the kitchen!
Hope you enjoy the "new look"!
What a great big piece. Love it. I am sure you are getting super excited about finishing that bathroom. I am sure it will be stunning.

It all looks so nice, as always! Mitten garland is adorable. Jillian will be turning 7....seems to go by so fast.
ReplyDeleteLots of projects going on, but it's also fun to see the end result. Happy Valentines Day!

Go ahead and keep the mitten garland up, it's still winter! But add some red or pink hearts in between or just string another garland of hearts, it will look cute! Your pantry is wonderful.

ReplyDeleteI really like your cupboard painted that color! I wouldn't call that a "quick little project" though ... but I'm not one for projects like that, so it would be a major project for me. I love your mitten garland -- very sweet!

ReplyDeleteWOW!! I love the look of that cabinet... I have a brown one, similar in style... that don't know if I could ever paint over its original stain... but perhaps someday. You inspire!! and that garland is so precious...
